It’s official. A Ghanaian is Uganda U17 and U20 national football teams coach.

Fabin Kwesi was named and unveiled on Wednesday by FUFA president Eng Moses Magogo at FUFA house in Mengo.

Kwesi, given a short spell of just one year renewable contract, has been tasked with guiding the Cubs (U17 team) at the U17 AFCON which kicks-off in Tanzania in April.

Kwesi’s first professional managerial job was with Heart of Lions (Ghana) in 2006. Since then, he held stints with Asante Kotoko (twice), Inter Allies FC, Hearts of Oak.

He was appointed as the coach of Ghana’s U17 team on February 1, 2015 until October 24, 2017, a period of 996 days. He led the club for 10 games, winning 6, drawing once and losing three.

He led Ghana to the final of the U17 AFCON in Gabon in 2017 and also guided the team to the FIFA U17 World Cup in India in 2017.

Kwesi Received the Bribe?

There is a wide accusation in Ghana that Kwesi took bribes as Ghana was knocked out of the FIFA U17 World Cup in November in 2017.

The allegations arise from the way the coach tinkered with his lineup.

Also, according to the ex-Ghana U23 forward, Kwadwo Poku who worked together with Kwesi at Asante Kotoko in the 2017/18 season, said that Kwesi was always bribed to field some players.

He claimed the former Ghana U17 Coach was induced with money which always made him bias in his selections.

When asked, Kwesi speaking with Happy FM in Ghana in 2017, revealed:

“I have been constantly approached by player managers, agents and club officials to get their players into the national team. In fact the highest amount I have been tempted with as bribe is $5,000. I always say that I will not take bribes to discharge my duty so despite the several attempts to bribe me, I never fell foul.”
