Players Abroad: Miya Bags Brace In Croatia

Uganda’s attacking midfielder Farouk Miya was on target, not once but twice, as his side HNK Gorica eased past Hajduk Split in a league game played on Saturday.

Miya struck in the 11th minute before earning his brace in the 47th minute in a 3-0 league victory at SRC Velika Gorica stadium. Lukasz Zwolinski scored from the spot in between Miya’s goals.

The victory propels Gorica to fifth place on the 10 team log with 39 points, two places below a Europa League qualification spot.

Miya joined Gorica from Standard Liege last year after signing a two year deal from the Belgium side.

His time at the Belgium club had seen him loaned out on various occasions, latest to FK Sebail in Azerbaijani.

The former Vipers player had seen his time in Croatia come under scrutiny after he was sent off, receiving a second yellow, on April 2nd in a home loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

This was his fourth goal for Miya in Croatia in 24 league games. His form will be gladly needed for the Cranes in Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt later this year.

Miya is vividly remembered locally for that lone goal as Uganda edged Comoros 1-0 at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole as the Cranes broke a 38 year AFCON jinx in 2017.
