Betway Power 82-66 KCCA Men
(16-14, 18-17, 32-15, 16-20)
Without star player Syrus Kiviiri, Big man Phillip Ameny and Captain Fahmy Ssebatindira, Joseph Ikong made sure that Power will not feel the absence of the trio as he took centre stage in the 82-66 victory against KCCA Men.
Ikong took up the scoring, defensive and leadership responsibilities to gun down KCCA Men in a strong performance.
Ikong, stylised as IK, led the way with a game high 19 points in his best output this season. He shot 7-13 from the field, added five rebounds and three assists.
Power needed the veteran to step up, after losing four games early into the regular season. IK recently came at halftime during a game against Sharing Youth at Lugogo but he was the first player to arrive at YMCA, about three hours to tip-off, on Sunday.
Geoffrey Soro had 15 points, Libe Makala managed 10 while Paul ‘McGyver’ Odong came off the bench to score 15 points in a supporting role for Power who made 31 of their 74 attempts from the field.
Arnold Lando’s side was 50% from the free throw line, made 26 assists – eight more than KCCA in a game played under intense heat at YMCA.
Francis Mbuyi scored 16, Andrew Gang and Geoffrey Omondi added 13 and 12 respectively for KCCA who lost their fifth game of the season. They have only two wins coming against Falcons and Our Saviour.
This was the first time this season that Power won back to back games – They had beaten up on Sharing Youth 98-84 in their previous encounter.
This was Power’s fourth victory – They beat KIU Titans in their first win of the season and also eased past Our Saviour. Power will face Falcons (May 31), Kampala University (June 1) and Ndejje University Angels (June 5) to end the regular season.
