NBL: JKL Thrive, Power Strangle Ndejje Angels

JKL Dolphins thrashed Sharing Youth 82-58 in a National Basketball League encounter at YMCA to end the first round of the regular season on a high note.

Dolphins who end in fifth place with eight wins after eleven games, benefited from Sharing Youth’s slow start to lead 20-6 in the first quarter. Sharing won 11-9 and 23-21 in the next two quarters, but JKL fought back to win the last quarter 22-18 and seal a deserved win.

“We played very well,” said JKL Dolphins player Brian Muramba. “I have played for Sharing Youth before so I knew that they are a team that never give up. We had to make sure that we end each quarter in lead and this worked.”

“Its going to be tougher in the second round, there is still much to work on. I feel proud to play for JKL, I have blended in well and am sure we will reach the finals because we can do it.”

Daniel Orenga led the way with 15 points, Yesman Bushiri and Muramba had 11 and 13 points respectively. Ivan Lumanyika, in his second game of the season, flourished with 11 rebounds.

Caesar Kizito scored a game high 20 points but in a losing effort. David Donat had 12 and Emmanuel Okumu added 10 points.

JKL will return once again face Sharing Youth on Sunday in the second round before games against UCU Canons (June 12), Our Saviour (June 15) and KIU Titans (June 21).

Sharing Youth end the first round in eighth place with three wins and eight losses.

In the other game, Power pummeled Ndejje Angels thanks to Syrus Kiviiri’s game high 17 points. Joseph Ikong (12 points and 6 assists), Geoffrey Soro (11 points) and Brian Sivachi (13 rebounds) also made positive contributions.

Power finish the regular season in sixth with seven wins and four losses.
