Federation of Uganda Basketball Association, FUBA, has revealed the 2019 NBL second round fixture.
This, will tip-off on Friday, June 7 with two mouthwatering clashes before ending on August 10. The Postseason (playoffs) will the start on August 14, 2019.
It should be noted that the top eight teams from both the Men and Women divisions will qualify for the playoffs while the bottom two relegated to lower divisions.
UCU Canons are top of the Men’s 12 team log with ten wins and just one loss. Our Saviour are yet to win a game. In the Women’s ten team log, MUK Sparks sit bottom and are yet to win a game from nine attempts. JKL Lady Dolphins are still unbeaten.
There many things that stand out in the first round, and the second round schedule has provided some decent matchups that everyone will be waiting anxiously to see.
Majorly, the second round fixture reveals that no game will be played outside YMCA (Wandegeya) and Indoor Arena (Lugogo).
It should be noted that even in the first round, the games that were supposed to be played at UCU courts (Mukono) on April 27 were relocated to YMCA.
Still in the first round, only two weekends had games played at KIU in Kansanga, and the wait to return to either UCU or KIU has been pushed to at least next season.
Teams’ (Betway Power mainly) complaints of playing two games in less than a space of 24 hours has been moderately dealt with. However, KCCA Men will play on Friday (July 6) and return to court in the second game of Saturday.
Also, UCU Lady Canons will suffer similar fate but under a short straw. To play KIU Rangers on Friday, August 2 and return again in the first game of Saturday August 3 against MUK Sparks.
Speaking about MUK Sparks, their chances of survival relies will be put on test in back to back games: After their opening three fixture against Nkumba, KIU and JKL, Albert Aciko’s team will face relegation rivals Angels, YMCA and UMU Ravens back to back.
Friday Games Deserve Your Attention
Friday action has always been the subject of renewed debate, and according to the second round fixture, FUBA has managed to score highly. However, there are near misses as well.
For the first time in quite some good time, City Oilers and Power will face off on a day which is not Friday. The matchup will be played on Wednesday, July 3.
On that note, despite being the six time champions, City Oilers have been given just two Friday fixture!. KIU Titans, who have never won the league, lead the race with five Friday games, UCU Canons (4), Betway Power (4), Warriors (3) ad JKL Dolphins (2) follow shortly.
It should be noted that KIU Rangers with just four wins out of nine first round games, will play two games on Friday, just like joint record winners UCU Lady Canons. JKL Lady Dolphins takes the lion’s share with three Friday Night games.
