Silverbacks: Dikong Ready To Spur Uganda To Greater Heights

Federation of Uganda Basketball Association National team committee has handed UCU Canons forward David ‘Dikong’ Deng Kongor a national team call up.

This is a reward to the player who has shown total excellence in the ongoing National Basketball league.

Dikong has been one of the best players in the league so far, averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds from 11 games with UCU Canons.

“It feels good being on the national team because am going to be playing with the best players in the country as my teammates,” Dikong told this website exclusively after a short training session at Lugogo.

“Because it’s a new challenge, it’s going to be interesting to compete at such a level of basketball hoping to learn alot from it and win.

“Am looking forward to play with my teammates and help the team win games.”

Dikong was born in Arua, Uganda to South Sudanese parents. On why he has chosen to play for Uganda ahead of South Sudan, he commented: “This is Basketball, it doesn’t matter what you are and where you come from. It provides us with equal opportunities. I thank my Coach at UCU, my teammates and of course the National team selectors for putting trust in me.”

He studied his Primary at Arua Public Primary School (West Nile) before joining St Joseph College Ombaci at O’level (Arua). He later moved to Buddo SS for A’level where he played for Giant Stomers.

In his A’level vacation, Dikong played for Destiny Phenoms before joining UCU Canons. And the rest is history.

Dikong is one of the three forwards summoned to the National team – Joseph Ikong (Betway Power) and captain Stephen Omony (City Oilers) are the other two.

The Silverbacks will host Zone Five countries at Lugogo from June 26 to July 1 in quest to book a slot in the finals of the inaugural AFROCAN Basketball.
