Silverbacks: Former Philadelphia 76ers’ Davies Jets In On Sunday

Uganda’s senior basketball men team, the Silverbacks, is expected to put up a strong challenge at the FIBA Africa Zone five Championship.

According to latest developments, new addition to the ranks, Brandon Davies is expected to arrive in the country on Sunday, June 16.

Davies spent two years in the NBA, the most famous Basketball league in the world, after going undrafted in the 2013 NBHeDraft.

Davies, according to national team manager Albert Ahabwe, was the selector’s choice for naturalisation.

It should be noted that every team has been allowed to naturalise one player. A country can get a player from anywhere, as long as she or he hasn’t played for any country.

“We are a nation of small people and our need was size,” Ahabwe explained to this Website on why the selectors went for Davies. “So we felt like his size and skill set solves our particular need.”

Davies will be making his National debut at the coming Zone Five Championship which is set for June 26 to July 1 at Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

Davies’ Playing Career So Far:

Davies played for Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA) after signing for the Franchise on October 28, 2013.

His first game came the next month against Chicago Bulls. He garnered his career high – scoring 20 points as Sixers beat Orland Magic 89-91.

He later joined Brooklyn Nets after 71 games with the Phillies in 2014. He was waived after playing just seven games.

He left NBA for France league, Elan Chalon to be particular, at the beginning of 2015 and helped the side to reach playoffs that year.

Since then, he has bounced back on top, finding his top form in Lithuania.

In 2017, Davies signed for Lithuania club Zalgris Kaunas helping the side to Euro League success where he was named in the first team, becoming the first player to win the accolade in about 15 years.
