AFCON: Onyango Sets Uganda’s Target

Uganda Cranes goalkeeper and captain Denis Onyango has set the team’s target at the Africa Cup of Nations due in Egypt starting on June 26.

The Captain who turns out for Mamelodi Sundowns, while speaking in a press conference, revealed that it will be team work that will determine Uganda’s ceiling.

He believes that team work can help them to achieve the team’s goal of getting out of the group stages.

“We might not have big name players like Mo Salah in our squad,” Onyango said in a briefing. “We have to put our efforts together and work as a team which will help us achieve our goal which is going past the group stages.”

“When you get the first win, you get the right momentum to go through your next games, and that is what we are looking for in our first game against DR Congo.”

This is the 7th time Uganda is participating in African cup of Nations. The side is placed in pool A with Egypt the hosts, DR Congo and Zimbabwe.

“I think our team has camped for a longtime than any other team so it will help us as team that we work together because we know each other, everyone knows one’s weakness and strong point.”

Cranes is kicking off its campaign with DR Congo on Saturday, 22nd 2009 at 5pm Ugandan time.
