It has been a competitive show down in the 10th edition of ICPAU junior woodball championship held on Saturday at Buziga Islamic school where over 36 schools out of 62 which qualified showcased their skills in the game.
The tournament was sponsored by institute of certified public Accountants Uganda (ICPAU).
The president Uganda woodball federation, Mr Paul Mark Kalyango, called upon organizations in Uganda to emulate the spirit of cooperate social responsibility by supporting such sports just like how ICPAU:
“Giving back to communities where we do our business is a global concern. The reason why we chose to introduce Woodball in Uganda even after knowing that in Uganda we have over 50 sports disciplines is because of its uniqueness.
“Woodball caters for the majority of participants. very few of you get the opportunity to play in physical games, its very good in mind articulation”
On behalf of CPA, madam Julian Namale Muweesi who was also the Chief guest, promised to continue working with Uganda Woodball federation and also to deliver support.
While talking to the participants, Nanjeru Denise who is also country’s best, advised the young ones to never give up.
The competitive tourney was won by Luzira secondary school in boys category – youth team who scooped a gold medal with 192 points behind Air force secondary school and Busiga Islamic Theological institute team B who won silver and Bronze respectively.
In girls category – youth team, Mpoma school won gold with 232 points followed by Luzira secondary and Air force secondary school Entebbe.
In junior category- teams. St Peter’s primary school Njeru emerged winners in boys category followed by Bukalabi c/u primary and Busiga Islamic Junior A who finished second and third respectively. In girls, Bukalabi C/U primary school took gold, st Peter’s Njeru silver and Green Acres moved away with bronze.
In individual categories –
Otim simon of Luzira secondary won in – youth boys with 40 strokes and Nalujja Amina of Air force secondary topped the girls in singles- youth with 50 strokes.
Bazongere Mike of Bukalabi C/U primary school emerged the best among all boys in junior singles with 22 strokes and Kasule Dianah dominated in girls junior singles with 20/strokes.
