AFCON: Coach Desabre On Why Uganda Cranes Lost To Senegal

Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre has explained that his side lacked enough experience to knockout one of the big houses in African football.

Uganda lost 1-0 to Senegal in a round if 16 tie played at Cairo International Stadium for the Lions of Terranga to set up a quarter final duel with Benin.

Sadio Mane scored in the 15th minute, although had his penalty kept out by Denis Onyango, in an eventful encounter.

“Lack of experience cost us this defeat,” Coach Desabre as quoted by CAF media. “We started in a bad way because there was a lot of pressure on our players.”

“The mistake we did cost us much because it came in front of a player like Sadio Mane. After the goal we conceded, we were better and had many chances but unfortunately Senegal was better than us.

“We were not far from qualification against the best side in this tournament, Senegal. We did well and played beautiful football, and Uganda is a team with brilliant future.”

Uganda had qualified to the knockout for the first time since reaching 1978 finals where they lost 2-0 to Ghana.

The Cranes leave Egypt with their heads up after coming second from group A where they beat DR Congo 2-0, drew Zimbabwe and lost 2-0 to hosts and favourites Egypt.
