Lumala Reveals Toughest Opponent, Team Faced At AFCON

Abdul Lumala has been one of Uganda’s best performers at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

He has won many local admirers hearts with his dazzling moves and electric pace. He tore down defences. Powerful and athletic.

He was however pocketed by Senegal and it was, according to many, the turning point for Uganda’s failure to create chances at the goal mouth as Uganda bowed out at the round of 16.

Speaking to CAF Media shortly after the team’s 1-0 loss in the hands of Lions of Terranga at Cairo International Stadium, Lumala said:

‘We had to show our indentity. We are small but a strong group of people. We showed great character but we are angered to go out, I think we deserved better.”

When asked to name his toughest opponent and team he faced in Egypt, the Swedish based winger revealed:

“Our difficult game was against Zimbabwe. We came in knowing that they were going to give it their all. Though we prefer to play big games than small.

“On my toughest oppponent, I think I have met many quality players but today it was a little bit of Koulibally.”

The Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly won almost every duel against the Cranes as the West African Giants created a water tight defense to deny Uganda.

Lumala, linked to many big clubs at Europe and Africa, started plies his trade with Sweden’s Syrianska FC on loan from Kalmar FF.

He grew up with his grandmother in Kamengo, Mpigi district after the death of his Mother. His father is not known.
