We Are Going To Win The AFCON U20 Trophy – Kakooza

Uganda U20 Men’s national team semi final hero Derrick Kakooza has stressed that Hippos are going to win the on-going U20 AFCON championship.

Kakooza scored a hat trick to enable the Hippos reach the finals as they humbled Tunisia 4-1 on Monday.

Speaking after the game, Kakooza who is now the top scorer at the tournament, attributed the good show to hard work and prayers.

“First of all I want to thank the almighty God that I have scored a hat trick in this tournament and also helped my nation qualify for the finals on Saturday.

“I have been praying and working hard as well and God has answered my prayers.”

Kakooza has now scored five goals at the finals, including two in three group stage games.

He netted his three after Richard Basangwa had given Uganda the lead before Karim Benlamine equalised for Tunisia.

The Police FC striker has asked the fans back home to continue praying for the team because they are bringing the trophy to Uganda.

“We are bringing the trophy home.

“I call upon our fans to pray so that we can bring it home.

Kakooza, who was one of the two changes made by Morley Byekwaso from the team that started against Burkina Faso, his start and trust paid off with an hat trick.

He thanked the coaches and all his colleagues for the collective effort towards ensuring they won Monday’s game.

“I am very Happy. I want to thank my coaches, officials, and my teammates.

“So far I’m the top scorer with five goals and I know we are going to make it.”

In the Finals to be played on Saturday, the Hippos will face Ghana who eliminated Gambia in the other semi finals, thanks to Precious Boah’s late strike.

When the Hippos face Ghana in Saturday’s final, it will be a repeat of the 1978 AFCON final when the respective senior sides met at Accra Sports Stadium before the hosts ran out 2-0 victors.
