Wakiso Hills WFC booked a place in the semi finals of the FUFA Women Elite League after they eliminated Amuria High School on Sunday, May 30.

Josephine Atilong’s own goal was the difference on the day, ensuring Wakiso won the low-key contest played at Njeru.

In the opening minutes, both sides settled for long balls but slowly grew into the game and started holding onto possession better.

The game was temporarily stopped on 16 minutes as Amuria goalkeeper Stella Adiao went down after colliding with Slyvia Namiwanda.

The first was a half that saw little goal-mouth action and the two sides went into the break deservedly deadlocked at 0-0.

At the second half resumption, Wakiso Hills came back a rejuvenated side and it was no surprise when they took the lead through Atilong’s own-goal off a Faith Namuddu corner.

It was a lead that Wakiso held onto so as to reach the last four of the competition.

Speaking after the game, Kamya Swalleh, head coach for Wakiso Hills was happy to see his side progress to the next round before adding that the players followed the instructions.

“I thank the almighty God. He has given us what we never expected and that is to reach this far. We are happy that our players followed instructions.” Kamya said after the game.

In the semi finals, Wakiso Hills will now take on the winner between She Maroons and Ajax Queens who play later on Sunday.

The Antelopes are now the third team to book a semi-final slot after Bunyaruguru Girls and Rines WFC did the same on Saturday.

The other quarter final match will be between She Maroons and Ajax Queens on Sunday afternoon starting at mid-day.
