Neko Muduse Ojala: Volleyball Icon Dies Aged 75

Uganda’s Volleyball legend Neko Muduse Ojala has been pronounced dead on Wednesday afternoon at the age of 75.

Ojala, Nemostars Club Patron, is said to have succumbed to Covid, days after his mother passed on recently.

He founded the Uganda Volleyball Federation in 1973 where he was the Secretary General until 1989. He also founded the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club in 1970.

“It is terrible times that we are living in, its very very sad that our patron, mentor, the man who is the brain behind Volleyball in Uganda has passed,” said Former UVF President Haddija Namanda while speaking to The-SportsNation.

“He was not only for Volleyball but to the whole Sports Fraternity, he was raising players from nothing to greatness. I joined Volleyball after University with no idea of how Volleyball was played but in months time he mentored me to who I am today. He brained me and gave me a perspective of what it would take me to become a whollistic volleyball player.

“Anyone who went through his hands can attest. He was sacrificed his whole life to see NemoStars be where they are today just like he did for KAVC and all other clubs he formed. Its a big loss to Uganda, and sporting world because he is an icon to reckon with.”

“He believed in performance, he grew the game of Volleyball in Uganda from scratch, he leaves behind a big legacy.”

He was in 2005 awarded with a Life time achievement award by Uganda Volleyball Federation.

Ojala founded over 10 volleyball clubs during his time.
