*Ethiopia Vs Uganda, 2pm

Uganda Cranes and Ethiopia face off on Sunday in an international friendly as the two sides sharpen for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

This, will serve as the first test for coach Milutin Micho Sredejovic since returning as Cranes coach to replace Northern Irishman Jonathan Mckinstry.

The similarity of the matter is that Mckinstry’s first match as Cranes coach was a friendly against Ethiopia – the Cranes went on to win 1-0 at Bahir Dar thanks to a goal by Emmanuel Okwi in October 2019.

The Cranes had planned to face Syria twice during the Jordan camp which was since cancelled due to Covid19 restrictions, leaving the side with only Ethiopia as the main build up game.

However, on Saturday, Uganda played a practice match with Ethiopian Premier League Champions Fasil Kenema which they won 1-0 thanks to Bobosi Byaruhanga strike.

Coach Micho is confident that the friendly against Ethiopia on Sunday will fine tune the Cranes for the World Cup Qualifiers.

The Serbian is quoted by FUFA media: “The players are physically and mentally prepared for the international build up. This will be a perfect build up for us as we go to the Kenya and Mali clashes.”

Uganda face the Harambee Stars in Kenya on September 2 before Mali at Kitende on September 6.

Ethiopia on the other hand, played out a goalless draw with Sierra Leone two days back in their first friendly.

They visit Ghana on September 3 and host Zimbabwe in a trick group that also has Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
