Stanbic Uganda Cup: Maroons Seek To Avoid Minnows Ateker FC Scare

FUFA Big League side Maroons FC take a long trip to Soroti to face Soroti District Fourth Division side Ateker FC at the Soroti Stadium in Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32.

The Prison Warders has no room for error as they hope to eliminate minnows Ateker FC to book a place in the Round of 16.

Maroons needed a 4-2 victory from the penalty shootouts against Eastern Regional League side Jinja United FC after Kiibi William equalised for the Visitors in a 1-1 draw.

Ssenfuma Muhammad’s side goes into this game full of confidence after coming from a goal down to beat Ndejje University 3-1 in the FUFA Big League at the Arena of Visions.

Norman Odipio cancelled George Akena early header before Amaku Fred put the visitors infront and William Kiibi sealed the victory to move Maroons second of the log with 25 points two below leaders Blacks Power.

Ahead of the game, the Luzira based club are boosted with the return of Goalkeeper Oluka John William, Amanya Junior and Bruno Bbosa from injury while Kambugu Hadad is set for his debut as he travelled with the team, Bayiga Patrick is back after missing the league game through suspension.

Ateker Not Scared

For Ateker, they eliminated Buganda Regional League side Lugazi Municipal FC 4-2 on Penalties after a one all draw at Tubur Primary School Playground in the Round of 64.

Speaking ahead of the game, Ateker FC Head Coach Cyrus Poline is wary of Maroons form and history but he’s confident his side is ready to tame and overcome them.

“We are set to host Maroons FC in the Round of 32, the boys are set and really excited it’s going to be a very good game for us” Says Poline

“We very well know that Maroons is a very experienced side with experienced players having that current form right now, we do understand they have been having a couple of good seasons”.

“They are on form they are lying second on the table of the FUFA Big League we know they are still fighting for a slot back in the Premier league”.

In the Preliminary Rounds, they eliminated Regional League Sides Eastland FC, Team Church FC and Serere Soccer Club.

The coach added: “We are not in this round by mistake, we have been working hard, right from the preliminary round we have been playing teams above us, we are not saying we are here by mistake we are here on merit we have been having a very good game.

“I believe Maroons is not a big threat to us, we are set to host them we have prepared the boys well, physically they are fit, mentally they are prepared, physiologically they are all settled, all I would say we are set for the game”.

Ateker FC is still waiting for the start of the fourth Division League.
