Agaba, Musanabera Winners at Captain’s Bell Tourney

Dickson Agaba and Bernadette Musanabera were the overall winners at the 2022 Absa bank sponsored Uganda Golf Club Captain’s Bell tournament.

Agaba stormed to the top after scoring 40 stableford points while Musanabera gathered 41 to win the Female field.

The duo walked home with a golf bag and bottle of wine each on an incredible night with Absa Bank Uganda colouring the 19th hole experience.

Deo Akope led the professionals category with 140 points, to take the Lion’s share of Sh10m kitty.

“On behalf of Absa, I want to congratulate all the participants for their accomplishments throughout the tournament,” said Absa Bank Uganda Managing Director Mumba Kalifungwa.

“Even if you don’t win anything, Golf is about the experience, socializing, making friends, networking, so we are all winners by being all here today.

“To the outgoing Captain Patrick Billy, thank you for holding force, we commend you for the job done.”

Speaking about his Golfing journey, Kalifungwa said: “My Marketing director Hellen came and asked me that we should sponsor the Captain’ Bell Golf Tournament, she just made this assumption that I should play Golf.
And she gave me a tee off time of 7pm on a particular Saturday.

“Unknown to her, I was just lesson number 15, and I went running to my coach and told him I can’t disappoint the team that I can’t play golf. Fast forward to September 1 2021, a year later, I am playing off Handicap 22.”

The tournament sent off the outgoing captain Patrick Billy, Vice-Captain/Course Secretary Dr Alex Coutinho and their committee.

The new committee is led by Captain Emmanuel Wamala and his Vice-Captain Paul Fitzgerald Nuwagaba.

“I would never ever thought I would play Golf. I passed this place (Uganda Golf Club) a couple of times and looked left and right, Edwin Tumusiime invited us to his house and we saw a set of clubs and asked him why they use so many of them. His house is near a golf course and after explaining to us things we didn’t understand, he decided to take us to the Course and showed us.

“I remember going to the Course and tried to hit it several times and missing it. I managed to it once. He took us to the club house after, we met the members. One member gave me a ball and told me that I will be a golfer, and since then, that’s how I became a golfer.”
