Crested Cranes: Six Dropped, Four Foreign Based Players Join Camp

Crested Cranes coach George Lutalo has dropped six players as the team continues preparations for the upcoming 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations.

Fresh from winning their maiden Cecafa in Njeru, the Crested Cranes kicked off their AWCON preparations at Kampala Quality P/S in Kisasi on Tuesday for the tourney due next month in Morocco.

The dropped players are Viola Namuddu (Makerere University), Harima Kanyago (Uganda Martyrs), Miriam Ibunyu (She Corporate), Naome Nagadya (She Corporate), Resty Nanziri (Kampala Queens) and Juliet Adeke (Kawempe Muslim).

“We had to reduce the number of players as we continue to fine tune our team and more players are joining in,” commented coach Lutalo.

Uganda beat Burundi in CECAFA final and that is a big motivation going into AWCON for the first time in about two decades.

“Its now operation AWCON, everyone is in good shape and the spirit in camp is very high,” Lutalo added.

“AWCON is a different tournament from CECAFA but we are hopeful and banking on good preparations to deliver in Morocco.”

In AWCON, Uganda in pitted in Group A alongside Hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal.
