Kick-off Dates For CAF Inter-club Competitions Set

The Confederation of African football (CAF) has announced the start dates for the 2022/2023 season of Interclubs Competitions.

The CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup will kickoff on Friday, August 12 with the usual qualification rounds.

The Group Stages will then begin in September and end before November 18 2022 to give room to players who will represent their countries for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Then, the knockouts will start in February 2023 after the African Nations Championship ( 2023 CHAN) in Algeria.

Uganda will be represented by Vipers in CAF Champions League having won the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League title.

BUL FC ready for Continental adventure

BUL FC will make their debut on the continent in the CAF Confederation Cup having won the Uganda Cup title following that 3-1 win over Vipers in the final held in Masindi.

Both Uganda’s representatives – Express and URA – failed to reach the group stages last year.

Express FC were eliminated by Al Merrikh in the first round of the CAF Champions League Qualifiers on away goals rule.

URA FC beat Ethiopian Coffee 5-2 on aggregate in the preliminary round but were ousted by Al Masry 1-0 on aggregate in the second round.

There are three rounds BUL FC have to overcome – First round, second round and playoffs – if they are to storm the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Vipers on the other hand have the first and second rounds before reaching the groups. But a loss in the second round sends them to the CAF Confederation Cup playoff round.

Only KCCA FC has played at the group stages of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

Wydad Casablanca who beat Al Ahly 2-0 in Morocco, are the CAF Champions League holders while RS Berkane beat Orlando Pirates in shootouts to win the CAF Confederation Cup in Nigeria.
