Morley Byekwaso On Playing Style, Mato, and Kankonde

KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso says that he wants his team to play better and win games as well especially on the road this season.

The 13-time league champions best Blacks Power 4-1 on Saturday for their third league win of the season, with all the victories coming at Lugogo.

The side has lost both their away games, falling to Arua Hill 3-1 and Maroons 1-0 in Arua and Luzira respectively.

But Morley believes that his side can forge out results on the road if he wants to, but claims that they want to win and do it with style.

“We have not won any game on the road this season, but we won a couple of last seasons,” said Morley.

“So, this season, we want the team to play football than just fight for results. We can just go out there and focus on results, just kick the ball up front, hustle here and there and the goals will come, but fans want better football because it’s a culture here at KCCA and we have to respect that.

“The fans want to enjoy the game, and coaching a team like KCCA, it has to be beauty first. So we are trying to see that we are moving with two dimensions that are playing well and winning at the same time, it has disturbed us but we are acclimatizing.

Against Blacks Power, KCCA, after a slow first half, improved in the second and eventually won the game 4-1 with Allan Okello and Rogers Mato scoring a brace each.

The win took the side to nine points from five games.

KCCA FC returned to winning ways

“We have been struggling as a team, we didn’t start well but we are now acclimatizing. And I think we have to respect whichever game is in front of us, every game comes with a different challenge. Once you play the way you played against the previous opponent then it might cause you problems.

“That is why we have been playing 4-3-3 previously but when this team came with a very resilient formation, we had to change with two strikers, and all of a sudden it helped us.”

The gaffer says that his team is not yet where he wants them to do and will rectify their mistakes in the next training session before their next match.

KCCA FC visits UPDF FC at Bombo this Wednesday and Morley will demand another better performance from his players.

The Lugogo-based side were beaten in Luzira

On Mato who was involved in all four goals, and also scored the only goal against Vipers, the gaffer credited his burst to giving him a chance despite his struggles last season.

“For Mato, it’s has been about patience and development because he struggled last season, missed a lot of chances but we have given him a second chance and these are fruits we are enjoying as a club,” he commented.

“I think we cannot crucify players when they are not doing well, you have to be there for them because their time will come. As a coach, you have to know that good times are just ahead for these players.

“I am so happy for Mato, his confidence is rising and he is now giving the team good results.”

One player who is yet to hit the ground running is striker Simon Kakonde, and the Congolese also had his goal wrongly ruled out for offside.

“He is yet to acclimatize into the system, he is new in this league and I think we are going to do our best to see that we help him. The good thing he is coachable, he is very disciplined and we will see how he helps the team.”
