Hockey Cranes Squad For Olympics Qualifiers Named

Barely two days since the appointment of Innocent Raskara as the interim head coach of the national men’s hockey team, Uganda Hockey Association has named a team of 23 players for the upcoming Africa Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers.

The team includes three debutants in Brian Ofoyimungu from Rockets, and the duo of Shafik Byamukama and Jackson Musinguzi from Wananchi.

Frank Wambalya also from Rockets and Stewart Kawuma from Kampala Stallions have also been called up, but there’s no place for Moses Tushabe from Weatherhead.

The team is set to commence training on Tuesday, 9th October as preparations for the Qualifiers gear up.

The Qualifiers are scheduled to happen between 29th October and 5th November at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Uganda will compete against seven other nations including Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia and hosts South Africa.

Uganda is pooled in Group A alongside South Africa, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

Their opening game will be against Nigeria on 29th.
