Who Owns betpawa?

betPawa, owned by Mchezo Limited, is an online betting brand that operates on the PawaTech gaming platform, part of the same group as Mchezo.

It was established in Uganda in 2014 and has since expanded to 11 countries across Africa.

These include Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, DRC, Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Benin.

betPawa provides an enjoyable and responsible gaming experience, utilizing technology to fulfill dreams.

Users can access betPawa exclusively through smartphones and desktop devices, with mobile money as the sole payment method for transactions.

The brand’s tagline is “bet small, win BIG,” highlighting its low minimum stakes and 1000% Win Bonus.

betPawa offers a range of products, including Sportsbook, Jackpots, Virtual Sports, and Casino (referred to as Games in some countries).

Mchezo Limited, based in Rwanda, owns and operates the betPawa brand.

It secures licenses in each territory through partnerships with local companies, allowing local investors to participate in the gaming industry.

betPawa’s origins trace back to the seed-fund 88mph, established by Danish entrepreneur Kresten Buch.

In 2014, the fund acquired a minority stake in Uganda-based sports betting company Mbet.

Subsequently, betPawa expanded to Kenya in the following year and further into Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, and Tanzania in subsequent years, bringing its African presence to 11 markets by 2023.

Kresten Buch remains the Group CEO to this day. As of 2023, Mchezo Limited, headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda, owns the betPawa brand, reflecting a long-term strategy to relocate its headquarters to Africa, promoting local employment and African ownership.

In April 2023, Ntoudi Mouyelo was appointed as the first Managing Director of Mchezo and Chief Commercial Officer of the group.

Mouyelo previously served as the Chief Investment Officer of the Kigali Financial Centre, a publicly funded company dedicated to establishing Rwanda as a preferred financial jurisdiction for investments into Africa.
