Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open: Kabasweke Leads Ladies, Seniors Tee-off

Handicap-3 player Peace Kabasweke is inching closer to her first Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open title.

In her second round on Friday at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante, Kabasweka recorded a 3-over par 75, maintaining her lead in the competitive field.

This performance follows her outstanding opening round of 4-under 68 on Thursday.

As the Ladies event heads into its Saturday finale, Kabasweke remains at the top of the leaderboard with a combined gross score of 143 over 36 holes.

Tanzanian golfer Iddy Hussein Madina is a close second, carding a 2-over 74 in the second round, accumulating a total gross score of 147 over two rounds.

Meron Kyomugisha, Awour Ashley from Kenya, and defending champion Martha Babirye follow closely in that order in the top five.

In addition to the Ladies event, the Seniors took to the Course on a busy Friday for their two-day event.

The Senior Open, featuring golfers aged 55 years and above, will see both male and female competitors in that category embark on their 36-hole action.

Notable golfers in the Senior Open include two-time Seniors’ winner John Muchiri, who won in 2021 and 2022.

He teed off at noon in a group that includes esteemed golfers like Hon John Byabagambi and Godfrey Onyango.

The tournament features an impressive lineup of seasoned golfers, including Eng. John Nasasira, Kenyan High Commissioner to Uganda H.E. Rtd Maj. Gen. George Owino, Okello Ocero, Sam Zaramba, Charles Katarikawe, Robinson Lutwama, Connie Mukuru, David Plenderleith, and several other talented contenders.
