National Chess League: Kireka A Meet CAA

Kireka A Chess Club will face Civil Aviation Authority on Sunday in the tenth round of the National Chess League looking to consolidate their stay at the top.

The former champions did not start the season very well- drawing two of their opening four games- but they made their way to the top slowly but with purpose.

Kireka Panthers, the defending champions and Mulago Kings, another former champion were among the teams FM Patrick Kawuma and co beat on their way to the top.

The plan for the side now is to remain glued at the summit as they look to reclaim the trophy they last won two years ago.

The tenth round will see them take on CAA who are in an unfamiliar position in fourth. CAA have lost two games this term, but like their Sunday opponents, they have won six thus far.

They will hope for a rare victory when they take to board against Kireka on board one.

Board two will entertain second placed Mulago Kings against sixth placed Lighthouse Team Atoma.

After losing 4.5-1.5 to Kireka A in the eighth round, Mulago Kings led by FM Harold Wanyama will be eager to stay within zero distance of the leaders.

Lighthouse, a team dominated by juniors presents them with an opportunity to do just that.

Both sides have lost two games in the league, but Mulago Kings who are level on points (21) with the leaders, and only second on a tie-break should have arsenal enough to see out their opponents.

Kireka Panthers will have Gambit to contend with in the tenth round. The Panthers will hope to regain their winning mojo after going three games without a win.

In the other selected games, bottom side Great Thinkers Elite will face SOM Katwe searching for their first win of the season. Great Thinkers have lost six of the first nine rounds.

Soroti Chess Club will take on MUK Echelons while SOM Katwe will face Jinja Knights.
