National Chess League: Kireka A Remains Top

Kireka A Chess Club maintained their top position in the National Chess League after a hard fought win against Civil Aviation Authority on Sunday.

The four-time champions won the game 3.5-1.5, but only Emmanuel Egesa and Sana Omprakash won their games.

The side’s top rated player FM Patrick Kawuma drew against Mark Wasswa Nyola on board one so did Allan Matthias Ssonko and Emmanuel Musasizi on board two and four respectively.

Kireka remain top of the table, but their tiebreak margin reduces after Mulago Kings’ comprehensive win.

Mulago Kings thumped Lighthouse Atoma 5-1 to stay within zero distance of the leaders.

While they lost board five, Mulago won all their remaining boards. FM Harold Wanyama beat Shilloh Tandeka while Peter Majur Manyang and Innocent Tamale also won their respective games.

Mulago Kings won board four by a forfeit after Lighthouse’s board four failed to turn up.

Despite the comfortable win, Mulago stay second on a tiebreak.

The league returns two weeks from now.
