Kawempe Muslim secured a 1-0 victory against UCU Lady Cardinals on match-day two of the FUFA Women Super League on Sunday.

The only goal of the game was netted by Mary Kabacurezi in the 70th minute, sealing the win for her team.

Mary Kabacurezi, a former Tooro Queens player, expressed her joy, saying, “I’m thrilled to score my first home goal. After failing to score in our first game, I was determined to make an impact today.”

She added, “Our goal is to become champions this season, and I believe it’s achievable. I want to contribute to our team’s success and ensure we have a strong season.”

Kawempe currently leads the league with six points from two games, following their 3-2 victory against Rines on match-day one.

Kawempe Muslim Assistant coach Moses Nkata shared his thoughts, saying, “Winning our second game is a source of inspiration for us to continue with this momentum. It boosts the girls’ confidence for the upcoming matches.”

He added, “It was a challenging match, as UCU is a formidable team. We capitalized on one of our opportunities, and I’m pleased that we secured the win.”

Kawempe finished as runners-up last season with 33 points, 14 behind champions Kampala Queens. They are determined to clinch the league title this season.

Kampala Queens who beat Uganda Matyrs 2-1 on match-day one thanks to a controversial penalty decision, drew 2-2 away to Makerere Univerity who recovered from two goals down.

Elsewhere, Lady Doves extended Asubo Gafford Ladies woeful start with a 4-1 mauling, the latter lost 5-0 against She Maroons in the opener.
