Vanessa Karungi Out Of Danger – FUFA

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has given an update on Ugandan goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi who sustained a worrying injury on Tuesday, November 1 in Cameroon.

The goalkeeper got a deep cut above her left eye in the lead up to Cameroon’s third goal in the 115th minute that separated the two sides.

Before the fatal moment, the Crested Cranes were tied 2-2 with the Indomitable Lionesses in the second leg of the first round of qualification to the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament, Paris 2024.
As Cameroon proceeds to the next and last round of qualification in which they’ll face old rivals Nigeria, Uganda will return home crestfallen. Some good news however is that the country’s most treasured female custodian at the moment is out of danger.

FUFA has confirmed that the Crested Cranes Team Doctor with assistance from Leader of Delegation Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe managed to stitch up the deep cut above Karungi’s left eye.

“She has stabilized and okay to travel back to her club in Denmark later tonight,” the federation revealed.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team is on the way back to Uganda via Addis Ababa but the foreign based players will connect direct back to their respective clubs.
