James Mayanja: Veteran Sports Journalist Passes Away

The sports community is mourning the loss of James Mayanja, a revered figure in sports journalism, who passed away at his residence in Gayaza on Wednesday.

The 53-year-old former Sports Editor at WBS TV succumbed to complications from diabetes, marking the end of a remarkable career in sports reporting.

Beginning his journey in the media industry in the Circulation department at Ngabo news, Mayanja transitioned to writing and reporting for the publication.

He worked for WBS TV where he left an indelible mark before the station was closed in 2016.

In 2006, Mayanja replaced the late Patrick Luwandagga as the head of Media Commission at the Uganda Olympic Committee.

He previously headed various USPA committees including Disciplinary, Photography and Membership.

Despite his health struggles, Mayanja displayed resilience, briefly recovering from diabetes and returning to work.

His dedication was evident as he actively participated in various media events, including the prestigious USPA Awards Gala held at the Imperial Royale Hotel in September.

At the time of his passing, Mayanja was associated with Delta TV, where his passion for sports reporting continued to shine.

May his legacy as a diligent and passionate sports journalist continue to inspire aspiring reporters in the field. His contributions to sports journalism will be dearly missed by colleagues and the sporting community alike.
