The Uganda U18 national team head coach Morley Bwekwaso is full of praises for his players’ dedication after they picked their first win in the ongoing CECAFA U18 championship in Kenya.

Uganda, coming off a narrow defeat in their first match against Tanzania needed a positive response in the game against Zanzibar, and an own goal plus Travis Mutyaba’s opener handed Uganda a hard fought victory.

“I thank my players for the efforts put in today’s game, it was a tag of war and we really needed to win it,” Bwekwaso said after Wednesday’s 2-1 win against Zanzibar.

“There are a lot of things we still need to rectify so that our progression gets smooth,” the coach added.

Mutyaba gave Uganda the lead before 20 minutes played, he initiated a brilliant individual move ending in a clinical finish to ignite Uganda’s momentum as early as the 17th minute if the game.

Zanzibar came back on level terms just a few minutes to the end of the first half through Moh’d Ali Moh’d.

An own goal by Zanzibar from a brilliant cross by Abubaker Mayanja all but granted Uganda all the three points.

Uganda’s victory reawakens their hopes of making it to the next level, and has also set up a very interesting climax to come in group B as all teams are now level on three points each.
