Basena Sacked After 50 Days at Ihefu SC

Ihefu SC, a Tanzanian side, has ended their association with Ugandan coach Moses Basena after a brief 50-day stint.

Following a series of disappointing results since his appointment on October 16, 2023, both Basena and Ihefu reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.

“Our team’s leadership has mutually decided to part ways with our former Ugandan coach, Moses Basena,” stated Ihefu.

Acknowledging Basena’s tenure, the team’s management expressed appreciation for his time as the head coach.

Ihefu, newly promoted to the Tanzania Premier League in the 2022/23 season, currently sits in 14th place, just two positions from the bottom.

Upon Basena’s arrival, the club was in eighth place with six points after five games but failed to secure a win in the subsequent seven games under his leadership.

His dismissal followed the club’s goalless draw against Tanzania Prisons on December 4.

Basena took over from Zuber Katwila, who departed from the club after joining them in 2020. This role marked Basena’s first club position since leaving Sunrise FC in Rwanda in 2021.

Notably, Basena boasts an illustrious coaching history, having previously served as Micho’s assistant coach at Uganda Cranes before taking over as the head coach in 2017.

Additionally, he has coached teams such as Simba SC, URA FC, The Saints, KCCA FC, UPDF FC, and SC Villa, among others.
