Mbarara City Fight From Down To Stun KCCA

•Mbarara City 2-1 KCCA
•Busoga United 1-1 Maroons

Mbarara City delivered a stunning performance, securing a memorable 2-1 victory against KCCA in an intense league clash held at the Kakyeka Stadium.

The Ankole Lions faced an uphill battle after conceding an initial goal to Ashraf Mugume’s strike for KCCA.

However, their resilience shone through as Sadat Nsubuga managed to equalize the scoreline before Henry Kitegenyi stepped up with a decisive winning goal for Mbarara.

Mugume’s impressive free-kick in the 33rd minute initially put KCCA in the lead, but Mbarara swiftly responded just two minutes later.

A strategic long ball from goalkeeper Hakim Nsamba found its way to Kitegenyi, who expertly directed it behind KCCA’s defense for Nsubuga to capitalize on and slot the ball past KCCA’s goalkeeper, Anthony Emojong.

The momentum continued for Mbarara in the second half, with Kitegenyi capitalizing on defensive lapses, bundling the ball in to secure their lead in the 62nd minute.

Despite Mbarara’s triumph, their head coach Wasswa Bbosa was sent off in the 70th minute due to repeated protests.

Nevertheless, with assistant coach Byekwaso Zaidi on the touchline, the hosts managed to maintain their advantage until the final whistle.

This defeat marked the second loss for Coach Abdallah Mubiru in his three-game tenure at KCCA and the seventh overall loss for KCCA in this season.

KCCA’s frustration showed earlier when Mubiru made early substitutions, bringing on Dominic Ayella and Emmanuel Loki.

The coach might feel his team could have performed better, given the challenges posed by the rugged Kakyeka pitch that featured bare patches, affecting the flow of the game.

Currently, the Kasasiro Boys languish third from the bottom with seven points after playing 10 games.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City celebrated their second victory of the season, elevating them to 11 points in the league standings.

KCCA’s poor run against hosts Mbarara City continues, having not beaten the side in six attempts now.

What next – Mbarara City visit UPDF in Bombo on December 11 while KCCA host Bright Stars at Lugogo on December 12.
