Kitara secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory against Express FC in the Uganda Premier League game at Masindi, thanks to a first-half goal by Paul Mucureezi.

The attacker’s decisive header stemmed from a precise delivery by Living Kabon, propelled Kitara to a significant win in front of a home crowd.

The match saw a relentless battle between the two sides, with Mucureezi’s well-timed goal setting the tone for Kitara’s tenacity throughout the game.

Express played better in comparison from their previous loss against SC Villa, but did not create as much on the day they could have squeezed out a point.

And they will feel they could have left with a draw at least in a game Kitara used their second choice goalkeeper Farouk Yawe who was a suspect throughout.

Emmanuel Wasswa’s attempt was denied by the crossbar, and later, his header went wide. Express also missed an opportunity to capitalize on Timothy Senfuma’s cross with no one in the area to tap in.

The hard fought victory sees Kitara ascend to third position in the league standings, amassing 22 points from their impressive performance across 11 games.

However, the defeat marked another setback for Express FC, who continue their winless streak, extending it to seven games.

The Red Eagles remain in the eighth spot with a total of 13 points, facing a challenging phase in their league journey.

Furthermore, the loss against Kitara extends a disheartening start for Alex Isabirye with two consecutive defeats under his leadership.

The Red Eagles now face the task of regrouping and strategizing to reclaim their winning form in the upcoming fixtures, but this was a performance Isabirye can build on going forward.

What Next – Kitara will visit Mbarara City on December 20 at Kakyeka while Express will visit NEC at Lugogo the following day.
