URA FC beat Mbarara City FC 3-0 to reach 20 points in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) this campaign, going ten points above the red line and closing-in to just two points off the top four.

Norman Namanya, Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Moses Aliro all scored and Rogers Omedwa kept a clean-sheet in the game played at the Mehta Stadium, Lugazi on Friday, 29th December 2023 as coach David Obua got his third win for the Tax Collectors after managing seven of URA’s 13 games in which he has collected eleven points of the possible 21.

It’s also the first time the Obua-coached side hasn’t conceded a goal since he took over in November. The Tax Collectors had conceeded atleast a goal in each one of all their last six fixtures before hosting the Ankole Lions.

In Lugazi on Friday, URA got so lucky to not concede in the first half from Isaac Amutuhaire’s ridiculous long range attempt from his own half that got Rogers Omedwa way out of his box, but the ball hit the crossbar and back to the URA goalkeeper.

A few moments later, Namanya put the hosts ahead in the 35th minute with a long range effort that paid off as Mbarara City goalkeeper Hakim Nsamba couldn’t keep out the midfielder’s shot that hit the back of the net.

In the second half, Joseph Ssemujju, Moses Aliro, Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Ibrahim Dada came on for Tibiita, Namanya, Bunyaga and Godfrey Sekibengo. The second half substitutes would later on directly impact the score-line.

Ahimbisibwe doubled URA’s lead with only three minutes left to play for on the clock as he headed-in from Ssemujju’s timely cross from the left.

In stoppage time, Aliro also scored with his head from Dada’s cross to make it three for URA, commanding a resounding 3-0 victory for the tax Collectors at home.

The result now shifts the Tax Collectors two places above, elevating them from the seventh position to the fifth on the 16-team UPL table, level on (20) points with NEC that will now drop to sixth place as URA have a better goal difference.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City will still maintain their eleventh position with 13 points from 13 games.

Obua has now won three, drawn two and lost two matches as URA head coach. He has won 3-0 against Mbarara City, 2-1 against Express and 4-1 against Arua Hill.

URA, under the Uganda Cranes legend also lost to Vipers and NEC with a uniform 2-0 score-line and also drew 2-2 with both Kitara and Busoga United respectively.
