Cricket Cranes: 26 Summoned For Ten-day Jinja Camp

Barely a fortnight since their return from South Africa where they defended the ACA T20 Africa Cup, the Cricket Cranes are back in the kitchen.

A team of 26 players has been summoned by Uganda Cricket Association for a ten-day camp in Jinja ahead of what is going to be a busy season for Uganda cricket.

The early preparations come in the wake of Uganda’s historic qualification for a maiden World Cup.

Juma Miyaji and Cosmos Kyewuta- the two opening bowlers for the team- who barely played last year due to recurring injuries are among the 26 that will camp in eastern Uganda.

Fast bowlers Innocent Mwebaze and Mohammad Shaf have been handed their first engagement with the national team.

Before their departure from Lugogo on Wednesday, Cricket Cranes interim coach Jackson Ogwang shed a light on what the camp is intended to achieve and also revealed what will be the Cricket Cranes first engagement outside Uganda this year.

“We are looking at team building first. That will give us a way forward on what we will need to work on throughout the year.

“The camp will help us in preparations for our first tour of the year, which will be a 12-day camp in India.”

On the return of both Miyaji and Kyewuta, Ogwang said; “Reports from our physiotherapist show that they are at 90%. We hope the camp in Jinja will give us a clear view of their level of fitness.”
