Desperate for a victory after a challenging opening day against Angola, Algeria faced Burkina Faso in a riveting TotalEnergies Group D match on Saturday.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw, showcasing a dramatic display of skill and determination.

Despite a stunning header by Mohamed Konate giving Burkina Faso the lead just before halftime, Algeria regrouped in the second half.

Baghdad Bounedjah capitalized on a defensive mix-up, scoring the equalizer in the 51st minute, shifting the momentum in Algeria’s favor.

While Algeria dominated the match, they failed to convert several opportunities, leading to Bertrand Traore regaining the lead for Burkina Faso with a penalty in the 71st minute.

The match continued with Algeria pressing for an equalizer, and Bounedjah once again emerged as the hero, finding the brace that leveled the score with seconds left on the clock.

Djamel Belmadi’s side showcased character and resilience, keeping their campaign alive.

The draw sets the stage for a crucial final group stage match for Algeria against Mauritania on Tuesday, while group leaders Burkina Faso face Angola in their last group fixture.
