Rugby sevens is set to debut at the African Games, with Uganda’s national team (Uganda Sevens) poised to make a strong showing in the inaugural tournament.

The event, which kicks off with seven men’s teams vying for top honors, promises thrilling action and fierce competition among some of the continent’s finest rugby talents.

The participating nations include Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, and Benin.

The tournament will adopt a round-robin format, ensuring each team faces off against every other squad once, with the top three teams claiming gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively.

Uganda’s campaign begins with an eagerly awaited clash against Zimbabwe in the opening match, followed by a showdown with Tunisia on Tuesday.

The team will then face Burkina Faso and the host nation, Ghana, on Wednesday, before concluding their campaign with matches against Benin and perennial rugby powerhousee and rivals, Kenya, on Thursday.

Following a disappointing effort that saw them reach the quarterfinals after impressing in the groups at the 7s Challenger in Montevideo, Uruguay, last week, Uganda enters the African Games seeking to make amends.

With eyes firmly set on the ultimate prize, the Ugandan squad is primed to seize the opportunity and stake their claim for gold on the continental stage.

Uganda Sevens Squad:

Adrian Kasito, Norbert Okeny, Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Isaac Massanganzira, Philip Wokorach, Desire Ayera, Ian Munyani, Alex Aturinda, Pius Ogena, Timothy Mugisha, Denis Etwau, Timothy Kisiga
