Preview: Vipers Face Stern NEC Test

NEC welcomes the Uganda Premier League defending champions, Vipers, to a crucial fixture at Lugogo.

Despite Vipers’ second position on the log, tied with leaders BUL at 49 points, their superior goal difference hasn’t secured their lead due to new regulations prioritizing head-to-head results.

Having lost to BUL home and away this season, these regulations have diminished Vipers’ title chances.

Winning their remaining fixtures against NEC, Busoga United, and Mbarara City doesn’t ensure a league triumph unless BUL falters.

Nonetheless, Vipers aim to exert pressure, starting with a victory over NEC, their toughest opponent of the three fixtures.

NEC, currently five points behind BUL and Vipers, faces elimination from title contention if they fail to defeat Vipers.

Despite home losses to Gaddafi, Express, and KCCA, NEC, led by Hussein Mbalangu, have looked a strong side at home in their debut season.

Whatever the result against Vipers who also won the first round fixture 4-1, NEC have already punched above their weight as evident from their Uganda Cup final qualification.
