KIU Titans Secure Revenge Against Nam Blazers

KIU Titans clinched a dramatic 74-71 victory over the Nam Blazers, exacting revenge for their opening season defeat, in a thrilling National Basketball League game on Friday at Lugogo.

The Titans entered the contest with a point to prove after falling to the Blazers 59-63 in the league opener on January 26.

They started strong, taking an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, the Blazers responded vigorously, turning the tide to lead 41-37 at halftime.

The game remained tightly contested throughout the second half, with both teams exchanging leads multiple times.

In the final 20 seconds, Joel Lukoji made a crucial layup to tie the game for the Titans, followed by Kasereka Tembo sinking one of two free throws to edge KIU ahead 71-70.

Coming out of a timeout, the Blazers had opportunities to reclaim the lead, but Innocent Ochora and Michael Makiadi missed successive critical shots.

Mpiya Juf then secured a vital rebound and assisted Lukoji for the final play, sealing the win for the Titans.

The final buzzer saw KIU Titans’ fans storm the court in celebration, while some Nam Blazers’ players voiced their frustrations over the officiating decisions.

Statistically, the Blazers struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 6-for-21, and were out-rebounded 45-49.

Despite the loss, Innocent Ochora delivered an impressive performance with a game-high 22 points.

Jimmy Williams added a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Peter Cheng and Michael Makiadi each contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.

For the Titans, Joel Lukoji led the charge with 16 points, supported by Kasereka Tembo with 13 and Mpiya Juf with 10.

The victory marked the Titans’ tenth consecutive win since their defeat to KCCA Panthers, while the Blazers endured their first loss in eight league games.
