UNBEATEN! Busei Are Eastern Regional League Champions

Busei FC have been crowned Eastern Regional League Champions after emerging 3-2 winners over Mbale Garage FC in the playoff final played at Mbale stadium on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Busei have now gone the entire season unbeaten, they topped the Nile Group after collecting 54 points in 23 games. They lost none, but drew just seven, and won upto 16 games, scoring 41 goals and conceding just seven in the process.

In Mbale, Busei scored very early in the game, with James Matege putting the Iganga-based side ahead within the first three minutes.

Kataka’s double-licensed player Aka Marcus scored to equalize for Mbale Garage in the tenth minute, while Eric Wabuzibu converted from the spot to put the Spanner Boys ahead in the 29th minute.

The first half ended with Mbale Garage in the driving seat, but the second half is one they’d wish to forget! They conceded two late goals in quick succession to throw away their 2-1 lead, and ended up losing 3-2 instead.

Jamiru Mulero equalised in the 76th minute, before Thomas Kabale also scored the winning goal in the 78th minute to seal the deal for Busei, who have now moved another inch closer to their Big League target.

However, the team from Iganga still has to overcome one last hurdle – a two-legged home and away playoff final (in Iganga and Kachumbala) against North Eastern Regional League Champions MYDA, after which the winner on aggregate will then be promoted to the Big League.

Meanwhile, Mbale Garage will have to try again, another time, after their impressive season in which they topped the Bukedi Group to reach the playoff final has been squandered.

In the regular season, the Mbale-based side accumulated 41 points from 21 games, comprising 12 wins, 5 draws, and 4 losses. They had scored 25 goals and conceded 13 in the process.
