Proline edged closer to promotion to the FUFA Big League with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ntungasaze in the first leg of the promotional playoff final at Mityana Ssaza ground.
Kevin Obua and Daniel Kazibwe were the heroes for Proline, netting crucial goals that put their team in a commanding position ahead of the return leg.
Ronald Kaye scored a late consolation goal for Ntungasaze, keeping their promotion hopes alive.
The match’s opening goal came at the stroke of halftime. Obua latched onto a long ball, skillfully maneuvered past Ntungasaze’s onrushing goalkeeper Julius Ssenyonjo, and calmly slotted the ball into an unguarded net.
Proline extended their lead in the second half when Kazibwe connected with an exquisite cross from Obua, heading the ball past Ssenyonjo to make it 2-0.
Ntungasaze fought back and were rewarded in added time when Kaye converted a penalty, reducing the deficit and setting up a tantalizing second leg.
Proline’s journey to this crucial playoff saw them crowned champions of the Kampala Region after a dramatic 6-7 penalty shootout victory over CATDA FC at Wankulukuku.
Ntungasaze, on the other hand, triumphed in the Buganda Region, defeating Simba 2-0 at Lugazi.
The aggregate winner between Proline and Ntungasaze will secure a coveted spot in the FUFA Big League next season.
Proline were relegated to the third division (FUFA Regional League) from Big League on the final day of the 2021/22 season.
