Police 1-1 Bright Stars
Bright Stars’ Noordin Bunjo canceled out Isaac Ogwang’s first-half opener to secure a 1-1 draw against Police in their third UPL match played at Kavumba.
Isaac Ogwang gave Police the lead in the 35th minute, finishing off Dennis Kalanzi’s set-up by beating his marker and slotting the ball under Were’s diving arms.
In the 70th minute, Bunjo equalized, tapping in a rebound after Ashrif Mulindi’s initial effort was spilled by goalie Kasibante.
The equalizer energized Bright Stars, who increased pressure on Police’s defense, which conceded its first goal of the season.
The pressure culminated in Allan Bukenya being sent off in the 82nd minute after a second bookable offense on Bunjo. His first foul had been on Marvin Joseph Youngman earlier in the second half.
Bukenya’s red card adds to Police’s disciplinary woes, following teammate Gerald Ogweti’s straight red card in their opener against BUL.
The result leaves both sides winless, with Police registering their third consecutive draw.
Nelson Ssenkatuuka nearly clinched the win for Bright Stars at the death, but he skied his shot with only the goalkeeper to beat.
Earlier in the match, Noordin Bunjo and Madera had clear-cut chances for Bright Stars, but Kasibante was up to the task.
Police’s first real chance came from Daniel Otto, whose powerful shot was saved by Were.
Substitute Reagan Male missed a golden opportunity for Police, failing to convert from close range with the net wide open.
Next, Police will visit Kitara on Thursday, October 3, while Bright Stars host KCCA on Tuesday, October 1.
