Defending champions Kawempe Muslim secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over She Maroons on Sunday at Luzira prison grounds on match-week three of the Finance Trust Women Super League.

In the first half, She Maroons faced intense pressure after conceding early goal in the sixth minute.

During the second stanza, despite an improved She Maroons performance, they failed to find a leveller.

However, it was Kawempe who got a glorious opportunity to add on their tally when they were awarded a penalty after Agnes Nabukenya was fouled in the box.

But Jackline Adong saved the penalty, keeping Maroons in the game.

She Maroons head Coach Simon Peter Ochuka expressed his view after the defeat: “The ladies failed to settle down and manage the game due to pressure after conceding a goal in the first minutes.”

“We’ve identified areas for improvement. The opponent was organized, but beatable. My girls deviated from our plan due to pressure.”

Kawempe Muslim Coach Ayubu Khalifa said: “I’m happy we picked the 3 points, though the game was tough.”

“We lost midfield control in the second half. Our ambition is to maintain winning. We have injured players and candidates preparing for exams.”

The win sees Kawempe maintain a perfect start to the season with three wins from as many games, staying on top with nine points.

Lady Doves, Kampala Queens and Makerere University trail Kawempe by four points while She Maroons are fifth with just four points.
