Vipers 2-0 Maroons: Nam Ouma Reflects On Victory

Vipers managed to overcome a resolute Maroons FC side, winning 2-0 in a league game played at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Tom Masiko scored from the spot after a controversial penalty decision before Brian Nkuubi doubled the advantage to seal a deserved victory.

Speaking after the game, Vipers SC head coach Michael Nam Ouma explained his playing strategy on the day:

“It was a game of two halves, we attacked a lot, we were very cautious in the second half after taking the lead.

“In the second half, with our lead, we wanted them to come at us so as we get them on the break and we managed to earn all the three points.”

Nkuubi (18) scored the second

The major turning point of the game came inside the first stanza when the game was still goalless – Branson Nsubuga’s poked Aziz Kayondo on his shoulder for the left back to kiss the ground for the Venoms to earn a penalty amidst protests from the Visitors.

When asked to comment about Referee Ronald Madanda’s decision, Ouma explained:

“I think the referee was just few metres away from the incident, so I am sure he took the right call. Its what he saw, and he gave us the penalty.”

The victory, 13th for the Venoms, sees the club maintain their title chase as they look to face leaders KCCA FC on April 4 at Lugogo.

Vipers are second on the log with 48 points, three below KCCA FC on 52.

Commenting about their upcoming duel with Mike Mutebi’s charges, Ouma shortly said:

“I can’t say how am going to play against KCCA FC, this is like an open forum but what I can reveal to you is that we will do our best.”
