Africa T20 Championship: Lady Cricket Cranes Off To Zimbabwe

Uganda’s senior women national cricket team, the Lady Cricket Cranes is positive and confident ahead of the upcoming ICC Africa T20 Championship .

The travelling contingent of 14 players and five officials were flagged off to Zimbabwe ahead of the prestigious tourney that bowls off on May 3 to May 15 in Harare.

Cricket Cranes Captain Kevin Awino, speaking during the flag off held at Lugogo on Thursday morning, briefly noted:

“We are glad to represent Uganda, and on behalf the team we thank the huge support from Uganda Cricket Association and National Council of Sports.

“We polished our mistakes. We are good to go and ensure to keep our flag high.”

NCS’s head of corporate affairs Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo and UCA CEO Martin Ondeko wished the team best of luck.

The team is set to leave tonight aboard Ethiopian Airlines, according to Media Manager Denis Musali.

All You Need To Know:

The tournament has two pools – Uganda is in Pool B with Namibia, Kenya and Sierra Leone while Pool A has hosts Zimbabwe together with Mozambique, Rwanda and Nigeria.

The winner of the tournament earns two tickets to both the 2019 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier and the 2020 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournaments.

Uganda returns to the tourney they won in Namibia in 2017 with four changes – Mary Nalule, Saidat Kemigisha, Gertrude Candiru and Carol Namugenyi paves way for Damalie Busingye, Sarah Walaza, Evelyn Anyipo and Maria Kagoya.
