*Uganda 4-1 Somalia
(Uganda Cranes win 7-2 on aggregate)
Uganda made light work of Somalia to reach the second round of the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
The Cranes, targeting to return to the continent for a fourth straight attempt, won 4-1 in a second leg played at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
Patrick Kaddu notched a hat-trick that included two penalties, while KCCA FC teammate Allan Kyambadde scored the other goal as Cranes matched on in style.
Daud Abdullahi Tubal brought one back for the visitors, capitalising on sloppy defending from the Cranes but it just proved to be a consolation.
Somalia presented less threat – Muhammed Hussein Bassey shot over the bar while goalie Charles Lukwago denied Farhan Mohamed Ahmed and Ayman Mohamed Hussein from a freekick.
The result see the Cranes progress with a 7-2 aggregate score – The side had won the reserve fixture 3-1 in Djibouti.
Uganda will face winner between South Sudan and Burundi, the latter won the first leg 2-0 in Bujumbura.
The CHAN finals will be held in February 2020 in Cameroon.
Cranes Win One Sided Affair
It was all but done when Cranes won the reverse fixture 3-1 in Djibouti, and the boys had earlier vowed to entertain the home fans in the return leg. Which they did.
Coach Abdallah made just two changes from the team that played the first leg, with Saddam Juma and Mustafa Mujuzi replacing the departed Taddeo Lwanga and Timothy Awany respectively.
Patrick Kaddu was hit on the head with a high boot just in the second minute for a penalty – The KCCA FC striker didn’t do any mistake but set the tone for the opener from the spot.
Allan Okello fired over the bar in the ninth minute, Mustafa Kiiza had his freekick punched onto the woodwork and Kaddu had his goal ruled out for offside in the 22nd minute.
Juma shot at inch wide from close range after beautiful build up from Mustafa and Kyambadde at the half hour mark.
Kyambadde doubled the advantage in the 37th minute when he was put through by Okello from a counter attack before slotting home.
Kaddu made it three for Cranes, another penalty after Allan Kayiwa was tripped from the forbidden area, in the 42nd minute.
Kayiwa was taken off for Bright Anukani, who brought more life in the game as Cranes continued to attack the Somali.
Okello rose high in the air to meet Mustafa’s lofty cross but his powerful header hit the ground before bouncing over the bar.
Kaddu grabbed his hat-trick in the 49th minute, first in National colours, when he headed in from Paul Willa’s corner.
Kiiza curled directed another freekick over the bar, Anukani had his powerful volley punched out but Cranes failed to find the fifth.
