2020 AWCON Qualifiers: Crested Cranes Learn Opponents

Uganda’s senior National Women Football team, the Crested Cranes, have learned their opponents for the forthcoming 2020 Total Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Crested Cranes, coached by Farida Bulega, have been pitted against Burundi in the first round.

South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Morocco, Mali, Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast have been given a bye at the preliminary stage.

The games will be played between April 6th and 14th for the first and second legs with Uganda starting on the road in Bujumbura before hosting the return leg at Lugogo.

Winner at this stage, will face Cameroon in a home and away duel set on June 1s and 9th, 2020.

A total of 12 countries, including the host nation, will take part in the 2020 AWCON – This is an increased number from the previous eight.

The 2020 AWCON, will be the 12th edition of the biennial international football championship organized by CAF for the women’s national teams of Africa.

The hosts of the final tourney are yet to be determined after DR Congo withdrew.

Uganda have played at this championship once in 2000 where they were ejected in the group stages.

In the previous qualifiers (2018), Uganda were ousted by Kenya 1-0 on aggregate in the first round.
