Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi says that they still have hunger to play at another Africa Cup of Nations.
The Cranes have two crucial qualification games against Burkina Faso (H) and Malawi (A) on March 24 and 29 respectively.
Okwi, one of the senior members of the squad, has played at the 2019 AFCON and says that they need to keep that continuation as a country.
First on the card is a tie at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende against Burkina Faso’s Stallions, a side they held to a goalless draw in Ouagadougou during the first leg.
“We know how important the game is, everyone here is fighting and ready to get the best from our game tomorrow and the one after,” Okwi told the journalists in the Press conference.
“We just hope that all the plans and tactics from the coaching staff will be put into practice.
“This is a very massive game, huge for everyone, I have been lucky to be part of the last two editions. The spirit is always the same, the fight you have to put up to qualify, it’s never easy, it will be good for us to have that continuation if we are to go back for a third time in a row.”
The Cranes sit second with seven points, one below leaders Burkina Faso ahead of the two last games.
In 2017, the Cranes needed a Farouk Miya goal against Comoros on last day of the qualifiers to return to AFCON after a 39-year wait in Gabon.
In 2019, Patrick Kaddu’s header against Cape Verde was enough as the Cranes qualified with a game to spare to storm Egypt finals where they reached the knockout.
