KIU Titans will be hoping to claim another victory against UPDF Tomahawks when the two sides meet in the National Basketball League at Lugogo.

The Titans won the first round fixture 63-54, and another win on Wednesday will see them continue their dominance against the Army side.

KIU beat UPDF 85-62 last year before the season was cancelled.

They had completed their double a previous season when they beat them 102-72 and 100-57 in 2018, the season UPDF was relegated to Lower division.

But on Wednesday, UPDF Tomahawks will be a hard nut to crack given their impressive show in recent games.

Baker Kyambadde’s side have 13 and lost 8, just like KIU after 21 games and both sides are vying to finish fourth alongside Power, with Nam Blazers, City Oilers and UCU Canons (in whatever order) likely to have taken off the top three places.

UPDF have in fact won four of their last five league games, a run that includes 126-48 (Falcons) and 104-76 (Ndejje) wins.

They were only pegged by Power who beat them 78-66.

But KIU, their opponent on Wednesday, beat Power 77-65, their fourth win in a row after victories against Falcons, JKL Dolphins and City Oilers.

Against Power, four of their starters – Isaiah Mabeny Ater (16), Otieno Michael (11), Edgar Munaaba (15) and Fidel Okoth (11) scored in double figures.

Point Guard Ahmed Kassa came from the bench to collect 16 points from 6-of-14 shooting and will be expected to play another big role against a UPDF side that will deny them freedom below the post.

But they will continue to be without Henry ‘Afande’ Okoth who before Power’s game on Sunday, had played all their 20 games, starting 18 of them.

It’s a big miss for the Afande who would have enjoyed playing against his former side.

Okoth who is down with a back pain, has been averaging 13 points and five rebounds for the Kansanga-based side.
