CECAFA U18: Uganda Beat Hosts Kenya To Clinch Title

Uganda defeated hosts Kenya in the final of the CECAFA U18 championship to claim the regional title on Friday.

The Morley Bwekwaso-coached Uganda U18 emerged 2-1 winners over Kenya U18 in the noon time fixture played at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Kisumu.

Kenya took the lead after an hour played, but Uganda’s Okello Batiibwe leveled matters in the 77th minute of the game which ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

In the second minute of the first half of extra time, Hakim Mutebi scored to put Uganda ahead for the first time on the day, and that was enough to secure the 2-1 victory for Uganda against the hosts.

The newly crowned champions started on a low note, losing the opening game 1-0 to Tanzania, but regrouped to pick up a 2-1 win over Zanzibar before beating South Sudan 2-0 to top group B with six points from two games.

Uganda then then defeated Rwanda 1-0 on the semifinal, before beating Kenya 2-1 on the final to lift the trophy.
