Alex Isabirye, Express Stroll Past Vipers

Saturday, December 30
•Express 2-0 Vipers
•Wakiso Giants 0-1 SC Villa
•Maroons 5-0 Gaddafi

Express coach Alex Isabirye got his revenge as his team secured a 2-0 victory against Vipers at Wankulukuku stadium.

Isma Kawawulo and Isaac Wagoina were the goal scorers, propelling the Red Eagles beyond the Venoms.

Kawawulo broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, slotting in a rebound off the post following Emmanuel Alex Wasswa’s initial free-kick that struck the wall.

Wagoina sealed the win with 13 minutes remaining, maneuvering past former Express defender Murushid Juuko before finding the back of the net.

Struggling to create opportunities, Vipers, who recently dismissed head coach Leonard Neiva, couldn’t breach the defence led by goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.

Under interim coach Richard Wasswa, fourth choice goalkeeper Derrick Kiggundu and winger Rodrigo Shammamba were handed rare starts while captain Milton Karisa came off the bench.

Despite brief periods of dominance in the second half, Vipers failed to outshine an Express team fueled by their passionate home supporters.

As the final whistle blew, Isabirye, who previously resigned from Vipers despite securing a double last season, savored the last laugh.

The win is the fifth, and second under Alex Isabirye, for Express FC this season. And it propels the side to 8th place with 19 points.

Vipers on the other hand, drop to fourth with 24 points, trailing leaders BUL by eight points after 13 games.
